Historic George Spangler Farm and Field Hospital Renovation

Project Info

In 1863, the Spangler property was converted into a Civil War field hospital for the Union Army. Kinsley provided preconstruction and construction management services to restore the barn and farmhouse at the George Spangler historic site.

The rehabilitation project included:

  • Restoring the bank barn and rebuilding the smokehouse to their condition at the time of the Civil War. The work included substantial repairs to structural timber framing, masonry preservation, new barn siding and new cedar shake roofing.
  • Renovating the 4,300-sq-ft, two-story farmhouse by converting the home’s interior into office and classroom space, as well as preserving the historic exterior.
