Our History

The Kinsleys are a family of builders, both literally and figuratively. What started with one man, his wife and five sons has become a nationally recognized construction company with one mission — construction done right.

Since 1963

More than 60 years ago, Bob and Anne Kinsley founded Robert A. Kinsley Contractor. Their company didn’t waste any time making a name for itself, quickly becoming a powerhouse in the York area, taking on a diverse array of projects, from landscaping, excavation and site grading to home construction and remodeling. It was a remarkable journey and just another step towards the future of Kinsley Construction.

Since 1963, the Kinsley family’s hard work and dedication, along with the commitment of our talented employees, have helped build a successful business, strong communities and a legacy that will last for generations.

60 Years of Construction Done Right

1963

Laying Down Roots

Bob and Anne Kinsley founded Robert A. Kinsley Contractor. Services provided included landscaping, excavation, site grading, home construction and remodeling. As the Kinsley family grew, Bob and Anne decided to move from their first home in Dallastown, PA to a 19th-century bank barn in Jacobus, PA. This historic property became both their family home and the office of Robert A. Kinsley Contractor.

1970

Business is Booming

By 1970, the business reached $1 million in sales and worked primarily as a subcontractor doing performance grading and concrete work. Bob decided to add street construction to his list of services and the company was subsequently awarded the Marlboro West Development and Haines Acres projects.

1980

Headed South

By 1980, revenue hit $8 million. With interest rates soaring to 18%, Bob directed the business south into Maryland and began looking into the build-to-lease sector for added stability to the business. Bob elevated the company to become a full-fledged general contractor, marking a significant milestone in the company’s evolution.

1988

Expanding Operations

Due to our expanding operations, the Water Street office space became insufficient and in response, a building on East Princess Street in York, PA was acquired. Shop operations were conducted from this new location, which now acts at Kinsley Construction’s corporate headquarters.

1989

Making Moves in Maryland

One of the initial projects executed from the Towson, MD office was the Merry-Go-Round corporate headquarters, a sprawling 450,000-square-foot office and distribution center. This project demanded meticulous coordination for a staged occupancy, facilitating the installation of mechanized conveying systems and racking with ongoing construction.

1991

Preserving the Valencia

Bob and Anne Kinsley played a significant role in the revitalization of the historic Valencia Ballroom. They purchased the ballroom at a Sheriff's Sale in October 1990 for $1,178 and leased it to the owner of the historic Accomac Inn under a 15-year operating agreement. Their commitment to preserving this important piece of York's history was instrumental in its contribution to York City's revitalization.

1995

Jonathan Kinsley Assumes Role of President

Bob’s son, Jonathan Kinsley, assumed the role of president of Kinsley Construction, while his other son, Christopher A. Kinsley, took on the role of vice president of operations.

2000

Paving the Way

Bob and Anne paved the way for industry growth by establishing the Kinsley Education Center. This visionary move aimed to increase the number of seasoned field employees and mentor the next generation of skilled construction workers, shaping a legacy of education and expertise.

2004

Landing the Excellence Award

Recipient of the ABC Keystone Excellence Award, the Harrisburg International Airport Terminal project stands as a milestone in our history. As a part of the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority's Capital Improvements program, Kinsley Construction undertook the construction of a new terminal building. This expansion, tripling the airport's original size, introduced key features including a food court, retail spaces, a baggage claim area, 12 multi-use gates and six passenger screening stations.

2010

Constructing the Gettysburg Museum

This LEED Gold project included the construction of a new 139,000-square-foot facility that housed a museum, visitor center and collections conservation and storage area at Gettysburg National Military Park.

2011

Flight 93 Memorial Unveiled

In 2011, Kinsley Construction finished Phase 1 of the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, PA. The memorial, spanning 150 acres, features a 1,200-foot-long walkway, a crash site plaza, a visitor shelter, arrival forecourts and visitor parking lots. Notably, the memorial includes a flight path wall, where the names of the seven crew members and 33 passengers are engraved in 3.5-inch slabs of Olympian White Danby Marble.

2013

50 Years in Business

By its 50th anniversary, Kinsley Construction became a high-performing, well-respected family company. Bob Kinsley remained CEO during this time and was still very active in the company’s day-to-day operations.

2020

A Lasting Legacy

In the wake of Bob’s passing, the communities he served were profoundly impacted. Although his absence is deeply felt, his enduring legacy lives on through his family, his employees and the company he built.

2022

Christopher A. Kinsley Assumes Role of CEO and President

After Jonathan Kinsley stepped down from his role as president, Christopher A. Kinsley took on the role of CEO and President.

2023

The Next Generation

With the entrance of G3 family members into leadership roles, Christopher A. Kinsley moved to CEO, Jason Stouffer to COO, Andrew Kinsley to President of Civil and Materials, and James Kinsley to President of Building and Industrial.
