Project Scope
Sheepford Road Bridge, which connects York and Cumberland Counties, was closed to traffic in 2020 after significant deterioration was found in its steel structural elements. Originally built in 1887, this historic bridge features a 114-foot-long single-span Pratt through truss design with distinctive Phoenix column members. Spanning the Yellow Breeches Creek, it holds both historical and engineering significance.
Due to its low vehicular usage, high preservation value and advanced deterioration, officials decided to permanently close the bridge to vehicles. In 2022, the West Shore Historical Society secured a $1.4 million grant to restore the bridge for bicycle and pedestrian use.

The bridge was carefully removed from the site using a crane and is being transported to our Princess Street Fabrication Shop for repairs. Once repairs are complete, it will be reassembled on site and fitted with a new timber walkway and cable railing, ensuring the bridge remains a functional and celebrated part of the community for years to come.
