Walnut Street Extension Project

Project Scope

Our Site and Highway Bridge crews teamed up for a high-profile road extension project where an abandoned highway known as the “goat path” starts. Our scope included substantial site work for 6,000 linear feet of new two-lane roadways as an extension of Walnut Street from the U.S. 30/ Walnut Street interchange to a new roundabout intersection that includes an extension of Ben Franklin Boulevard.

The project also required:

A new 167-foot-long, 54-foot-wide steel bridge
A new segment of the Greater Lancaster Heritage Pathway trail, a trailhead and parking
New traffic signals and lighting
Stormwater management facilities

The new bypass provides a direct connection between the Greenfield campus, which includes the Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences, and downtown Lancaster, and provides direct relief of the traffic congestion at the Greenfield Road at Route 30 intersection.
