Kinsley constructed four identical Lidl grocery stores in areas throughout the Metro DC area, as well as the German grocer’s North American prototype store in Fredericksburg, Virginia – their first location in the United States.
While the stores were identical in layout and finishes, the individual project sites required that Kinsley adapt to the changing conditions encountered at each location. Site challenges ranged from heavily-sloped sites that required extensive cutting and filling with large retaining wall construction, to sites with rock or unsuitable soils.
With the exception of the prototype store, each had an aggressive 26-week construction schedule after the site was pad-ready. Our relationship with Lidl, our experience on the prototype store, our ability to negotiate multi-store subcontracts, and the staggered project timelines ensured that we completed each project on schedule and carried ‘lessons-learned” into the construction of each subsequent store.
