PennDOT I-83 Exit 4 and SR 851

Project Info

To reduce congestion and improve safety at the I-83 corridor in Shrewsbury, Kinsley was selected to build a new Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) on SR 851. Our scope of work included:

  • Replacing the existing, three-span I-83 bridge over SR 851 with a two-span bridge
  • Lengthening and reconfiguring the ramps leading on to and off of I-83
  • Replacing the culvert that carries Deer Creek beneath the interchange with a 14-foot-wide by 400-foot-long precast box culvert, which required sheet pile shoring up to 46-feet-deep
  • New traffic signals at the interchange
  • Pile-driving 4,800 linear feet of foundation bearing piles for bridge foundations
  • Numerous stream relocations
  • Improving the stormwater management system, including installation of 67 storm inlets, 3,200 linear feet of storm sewer systems, three stormwater facilities and 1,300 linear feet of curbing
