Teaching Sculpture at York College

Project Info

Apprentices with Kinsley’s Steel Division installed a teaching sculpture at York College that exemplifies steel building components and their corresponding structural connections. Located in front of the Civil Engineering Center at York College, the eight-foot, six-inch, structural steel teaching sculpture is a work of public art and a teaching tool.

Designed by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), it provides civil engineering students with a visual, hands-on understanding of steel members and construction while learning about steel connections in three dimensions.

Four divisions of Kinsley – Building, Steel, Rebar and Industrial – participated to deliver:

  • Site work
  • Masonry, rebar, and electrical lighting for the sculpture foundation
  • Steel fabrication of the sculpture pieces
  • Assembly by members of Kinsley Steel Division Apprentice Program
