Not Your Average Warehouse Job
In October 2022, our Site team started work to prepare a 100 acre site for a new 1,006,500 square-foot warehouse. This project proved to be a true test for our team, involving significant challenges and unique tasks such as navigating through substantial rock encounters, demolishing houses and constructing new township roads. Despite these hurdles, our team not only completed the work on time but ensured every aspect was executed with precision.
Fire in the Hole!
When our team arrived on site, we immediately began a small amount of clearing and demolished several existing houses and outbuildings on the site. Once we completed the initial clearing work, we were able to implement erosion control efforts and began the installation of stormwater management ponds before bulk grading approximately 600,000 cubic yards.
The first hurdle our team encountered was rock, and lots of it – 240,000 cubic yards to be exact. While the rock was anticipated from the start, it was still a challenge coordinating daily with the blasting crews and other subcontractors. Due to the proximity of the blast zone to I-81, we couldn’t work without setting up rolling roadblocks.
Our team didn’t waste any time and we handled all the traffic control in-house so blasting work could commence. With blasting complete, the dirt work kept rolling and underground tasks began.
In the Trenches
For this project, we went beyond the usual storm, sewer and water installations on site. A distinctive aspect of our scope involved off-site infrastructure work; we installed an additional 13,000 lineal feet of four-inch sanitary sewer lines: 8,000 feet for current use and 5,000 feet for future use.
Alongside the off-site infrastructure tasks, our team took on the construction of a new township road and executed HOP widening and resurfacing work on an adjacent state road. To close out the project, we paved, constructed curbs, landscaped, seeded and installed a rain garden. All site work was wrapped up by December 2023.
Staying the Course
During this project, our team faced several challenges, yet none deterred us. The timeline for this project was demanding and our crew stepped up to the plate to complete this job on time. Shout-out to the entire team for their dedication and hard work on this job, regardless of the circumstances!
