Holly Bull – Environmental Bog Turtle Specialist
From an early age, Holly Bull, environmental bog turtle specialist, was inspired by her father’s commitment to environmental stewardship and knew that she wanted to dedicate her life to preserving the natural world. Growing up in a family immersed in science—her dad working on environmental construction projects and her mom excelling in the oil control regulation industry—Holly developed a deep respect for hard work, curiosity and conservation.
Holly pursued that passion academically, earning a Bachelor of Science in biology with a focus in environmental science from York College of Pennsylvania in 2022. After graduation, she gained hands-on experience working alongside her dad, completing an internship with Coastal Resources and working at the former Aquatic Resource Restoration Company. Today, she brings her expertise to Kinsley Construction as an environmental bog turtle specialist, focusing on wetlands, stream habitats and endangered species preservation.
Holly thrives in the field, immersing herself in nature. Certified in Maryland to conduct bog turtle surveys, she has spent hundreds of hours across multiple sites crawling through wetlands, monitoring
habitats and helping ensure the survival of these endangered turtles. “I love playing in the dirt, making an impact and helping people enjoy the Earth’s beauty the same way I do,” Holly said.
In her role at Kinsley Construction, Holly assesses land before construction begins, evaluates potential impacts on water and wetlands, assists with design and survey work, and collaborates closely with the Department of Environmental Protection permitting team. She also monitors
completed projects, evaluating structures, streambanks and vegetation growth. Holly is passionate about paving the way for other women in science and construction. “Be open-minded—there are women in these fields, and if there aren’t any where you work, be the first,” she said.
Outside of work, Holly is equally adventurous, enjoying hiking, paddleboarding, canoeing and board games, as well as diving into fantasy audiobooks. While she loves staying active, she also values a good nap to recharge.
“When you’re woman interested in science, it can be daunting to decide what you want to do with your life, but pushing through and looking at the light at the end of the tunnel will allow you to achieve your goals. There is still so much of my career left, and I’m looking forward to exploring and discovering what’s next.”
